- 01Hostel Uppelink is accessible from the two railway stations in Ghent. The trains coming from Brussels and Bruges stop at Gent Sint-Pieters station, the trains coming from Antwerp stop both at Gent Dampoort station and Gent Sint-Pieters station. GENT SINT-PIETERS By foot: The walk from Gent Sint-Pieters railway station to the city centre and the St Michael’s Bridge will take you half an hour and covers a distance of about 2,6 kilometres. Public transport: From the train station there are several options to the hostel. - 02Several coach and intercity coach companies provide an excellent connection to Ghent. Below you will find, amongst others, directions from the Eurolines, Megabus and Flibco stops to the hostel. FLIXBUS & EUROLINES = GENT DAMPOORT By foot: Flixbus and Eurolines coaches stop at Gent Dampoort railway station. The walk from Gent Dampoort to the St Michael’s Bridge in the city centre will take you twenty minutes and covers a distance of about 1,7 kilometres. Public transport: From the train station there are several options to the hostel. - 03Hostel Uppelink is located in a pedestrian area. Consequently it is forbidden to drive up to the hostel. Camera's monitor all incoming and outgoing cars. To park in the centre of Ghent is not easy and not cheap. Especially the underground parkings are expensive. In the streets nearby the hostel it is not allowed to park your car for more than 3 hours. Cheap options are parking at one of the free 'Park & Rides' in the south of the city, and to take a tram to the city centre: P+R EXPO/THE LOOP Tram 1: The free P&R Flanders Expo is situated south of Ghent. From this parking lot, we advise you to get on tram 1 northwards. You should get off at the stop ‘Korenmarkt’. Hostel Uppelink is conveniently located 100 meters away from the Korenmarkt, in the direction of the St Michael’s Bridge. P+R GENTBRUGGE Tram 21 or 22: The free P&R Gentbrugge is situated south of Ghent. From this parking lot, we advise you to get on tram 21 or 22 northwards. You should get off at the stop ‘Korenmarkt’. Hostel Uppelink is conveniently located 100 meters away from the Korenmarkt, in the direction of the St Michael’s Bridge. Or you can also pay to park your car at the canal the Coupure in the city centre, and walk a kilometer to the hostel: The Coupure is a 2 km long and narrow canal in the centre of Ghent. It is possible to park on both sides of the water for €6 per 24 hours. After that you need to walk 1 kilometer to the hostel. The last and most expensive option is to park the car in one of the underground parkings in GhentThe parkings close to Hostel Uppelink are: Parking Sint-Michiels: €32 for 24 hours Parking Ramen: €20 for 24 hours To reach these parkings, you have to take the ring road (R40). From there, you go to the "Nieuwe Wandeling" and then take a right at the "Hoogpoort". This is the street that leads you to these 2 underground parkings. Walk towards the Sint-Michale's Bridge to find our hostel. Within the city tram tickets cost €3 per person per ride. A 10 ride ticket costs €14. Free for children under 6. Walking is still for free ;-)
- 04If possible, come to Ghent and to Hostel Uppelink by bike. The city and its surroundings are ideal to explore by bike. Parking your bike? Hostel Uppelink might have free bike parking available during your stay, but it's not guaranteed. Please contact the hostel for more information. Beneath the St Michael’s Bridge, at the other side of the water, you will be able to find the free underground bike parking ‘Korenmarkt’, which has camera surveillance. This bike parking offers parking places for 210 bikes and is opened from 7 am until 1 am. On Fridays and on Saturdays, you can even dispose your bike until 3 am. For safety reasons, this parking is closed at all other times.
